New clients often come into an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.totalcoaching.com\/en\/#features\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">online personal training program<\/a> with the best of intentions, only to discover that when push comes to shove, they find it very difficult to engage with the personal training software on their own. <\/p><div style=\"width: 598px;\" class=\"thrv_wrapper tve_image_caption img_style_lifted_style2\">\n<span class=\"tve_image_frame\">\n<img class=\"tve_image\" alt=\"Boost client engagement\" src=\"http:\/\/www.totalcoaching.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/5ways-client-engagement.jpg\" style=\"width: 598px;\" width=\"598\" height=\"264\" scale=\"0\">\n<\/span>\n<\/div><p><span class=\"bold_text\">Boosting client engagement is <\/span><span class=\"underline_text bold_text\">your<\/span><span class=\"bold_text\"> job<\/span>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.totalcoaching.com\/blog\/6-ways-to-motivate-your-personal-training-clients\/\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" data-tcb-events=\"\">Motivating them<\/a> to work out when there\u2019s nobody there directly pushing them in-person can prove to be the first and most important challenge for virtual personal trainers. Avoid An \"All or Nothing\" Mindset<\/h3><p>Stress from the start that training is not an all-or-nothing prospect. Tell clients struggling to engage with the program to just do something instead of nothing, and to consider this a success, a stepping stone on the path to improved personal fitness.<\/p><h3 class=\"\">2. Find Tiny Successes<\/h3><p>That \u201csomething\u201d in the first tip often can turn into a full, or at least more, complete workout. <\/p><p>Sometimes a client will feel tired, unmotivated, and will look for any excuse to avoid a workout. It\u2019s getting over the initial inertia that is, quite commonly, the biggest barrier to complying with a workout schedule.<\/p><h3 class=\"\">3. Encourage Ongoing Dialogue<\/h3><p>Don\u2019t insist that the client continue to do an exercise or workout that he or she hates or never does. Work to find an acceptable substitute <a href=\"http:\/\/fitstar.com\/fall-love-fitness-gabby-reece\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">that is more enjoyable<\/a>. <\/p><p><span class=\"bold_text\">At the end of each training period, ask for feedback about what they feel is or isn\u2019t working on their calendar, and work to make adjustments accordingly.<\/span> The exception to this is a sport-specific exercise or workout that cannot be replaced by a better exercise\/workout; in this situation, be clear about the benefits of the workout and the drawbacks of avoiding it \u2013 but still leave the ultimate decision up to the client. <\/p><p>If he or she will never do the workout or exercise in question, it doesn\u2019t matter if it\u2019s the best!<\/p><h3 class=\"\">4. Praise Regularly<\/h3><p>Praise whatever your client does well or accomplishes. Your job as a trainer includes educating clients about sound fitness practices or sport-specific training methods.<\/p><h3 class=\"\">5. Encourage Uniqueness<\/h3><p>Encourage your clients&nbsp;to work with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aworkoutroutine.com\/how-to-design-an-effective-workout-routine\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">their own training schedules<\/a>&nbsp;from the start, and to explore new physical activities and fitness practices. Teach them to keep an open mind about incorporating these into their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitandme.com\/how-to-make-a-workout-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">workout plans<\/a>, and that <span class=\"bold_text\">what works for them will be unique - they don't need to mimic what works for others.<\/span> <\/p><div class=\"thrv_wrapper thrv_custom_html_shortcode\"><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.
