This is why email has proven to result in more reads and clicks than social media.<\/span><\/p><p>An influential marketing blogger, <a href=\"http:\/\/socialtriggers.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Derek Halpern<\/a> ran a test where he sent his latest blog post to the same number of people via both email and Twitter. <span class=\"bold_text\"><em>T<\/em><\/span><em><span class=\"bold_text\">he<\/span><\/em><span class=\"bold_text\"><em> results:<\/em><\/span> 300 people clicked on the article from Twitter and 4,200 people clicked on it from email. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.campaignmonitor.com\/blog\/email-marketing\/2014\/07\/email-marketing-vs-social-media\/\" class=\"\">source<\/a>)<\/p><blockquote class=\"\" style=\"margin-bottom: 30px !important;\">By sending relevant content to your email list, you are building a relationship and building trust. <\/blockquote><p><span style=\"background-color: rgb(239, 232, 88);\">Your reader may not be ready to commit to hiring a trainer or signing up for your online program today,&nbsp;tomorrow, or even next month. BUT, when they are ready, you will be the first person they think of.<\/span><\/p><p>Also, if you <a href=\"http:\/\/justagirlandherblog.com\/5-reasons-every-blogger-needs-an-email-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">write a \ufeff\ufeffblog<\/a>, an email list is a great way to get people to revisit your site, which builds your credibility and authority as a knowledgeable fitness professional.<\/p><p>Building your Facebook and other social media followings are great, but those platforms continuously change their algorithms and you don't have control over what they do.&nbsp;Right now, posts from Facebook fan pages are not making it into people's news feeds as often as before, and that's a trend that's <a href=\"http:\/\/marketingland.com\/facebook-organic-reach-drop-steepens-52-publishers-pages-187253\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">likely to continue<\/a>.<\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: rgb(239, 232, 88);\">On the other hand, collecting email addresses allows you to send information and make pitches to ideal clients on <span class=\"bold_text\">your<\/span> terms. You have complete control.<\/span><\/p><p>Now that we have covered the WHY behind email lists, let's get into HOW you can create and grow your email list.<\/p><h2 class=\"\"><span class=\"bold_text\"><\/span>Step 1: Create and Offer a Freebie<span class=\"bold_text\"><\/span><\/h2><p>The best way to grow your email list is to create a freebie and start promoting it.<\/p><div class=\"thrv_wrapper thrv_custom_html_shortcode\" style=\"margin-bottom: -10px !important;\"><iframe src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/3o6Mbqnp5R4ItT0ILu\" width=\"600\" height=\"420\" frameborder=\"0\" class=\"giphy-embed\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><p><a href=\"http:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/season-14-the-simpsons-14x3-3o6Mbqnp5R4ItT0ILu\"><\/a><\/p><div class=\"tve_iframe_cover\"><\/div><\/div><p class=\"tve_p_center\"><span class=\"italic_text\">Freebies, like free samples, show new leads what you can do for them!<\/span><\/p><p>People's inboxes are overflowing with newsletters and free stuff now-a-days. <span style=\"background-color: rgb(239, 232, 88);\">You have to get creative and provide superior value if you want someone to give you their email address.<\/span><\/p><p>For example, see below for one of <a href=\"https:\/\/yurielkaim.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Yuri Elkaim's<\/a> freebies. He offers a \"Health Score\" quiz that anyone can do. However, to get their full results, visitors enter their name and email address. Boom - a new lead for Yuri!<span style=\"background-color: rgb(239, 232, 88);\"><\/span><\/p><div style=\"width: 598px\" class=\"thrv_wrapper tve_image_caption img_style_lifted_style2\">\n<span class=\"tve_image_frame\">\n<img class=\"tve_image\" alt=\"Yuri\" style=\"width: 598px\" src=\"\/\/www.totalcoaching.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/quiz.png\" width=\"598\" height=\"285\">\n<\/span>\n<\/div><p>Offering a free downloadable PDF, e-book, <a href=\"http:\/\/sarahmichelle.ontrapages.com\/Thefirst15\">free challenge<\/a>, webinar, or mini video course is a great way to get potential clients to exchange their email address for your awesome freebie.<\/p><p>A PDF or e-book is probably the easiest and quickest way to get started. Type it up, <a href=\"https:\/\/julieharrisdesign.com\/how-to-use-canva-for-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">create a cover photo in Canva<\/a> or PicMonkey for free,&nbsp;save it as a PDF,&nbsp;and BOOM - you're done.<\/p><p>Don't over complicate this, it doesn't have to be super fancy. <span style=\"background-color: rgb(239, 232, 88);\">It should be something you feel you could charge&nbsp;for, but because you're so nice, you'll give it away for free.<\/span><\/p><p>Start with something simple, something you know. You can always improve it later.<\/p><h3 class=\"\"><span class=\"bold_text\">Ideas for Your First Freebie<\/span><\/h3><p><span class=\"bold_text\">Idea #1<\/span> - Make a list of 5 things about a topic you wish you knew 2 years ago. Use this list to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.becomeablogger.com\/21069\/how-to-create-and-sell-an-ebook\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">create a great PDF or e-book<\/a> for people who are struggling with the same things you were before.<\/p><p><span class=\"bold_text\">Idea #2<\/span> - Make a list of questions you are frequently asked as a trainer and put together a mini video series or e-book answering one or more of the questions.<\/p><p><span class=\"bold_text\">Idea #3<\/span> - Think about one of the biggest problems your clients face, and then solve it in a way that requires as little work from them as possible.<\/p><h3 class=\"\">How to Promote Your Freebie<\/h3><p><span class=\"bold_text\">Option #1<\/span>- Many bloggers write a great post and then offer a free downloadable PDf, as a kind of an \u201cupgrade\u201d option. You can create a FB header within minutes in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Canva<\/a>.<\/p><p>Here's an example where <a href=\"http:\/\/makeyourbodywork.com\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Dave Smith<\/a> uses a simple header to direct Facebook visitors to purchase a product. You could do the same, but send them to your freebie opt-in page.\u200b<\/p><div style=\"width: 598px\" class=\"thrv_wrapper tve_image_caption img_style_lifted_style2\">\n<span class=\"tve_image_frame\">\n<img class=\"tve_image\" alt=\"FB header\" style=\"width: 598px\" src=\"\/\/www.totalcoaching.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/header.png\" width=\"598\" height=\"268\">\n<\/span>\n<\/div><p><span class=\"bold_text\">Twitter:<\/span> You can also update your Twitter cover with some information about your freebie or services\/products you offer.<\/p><p><span class=\"bold_text\">Instagram<\/span>: Update the link in your Instagram profile to direct people to the sign-up page of your freebie.<\/p><p>In addition to updating your headers on social media, you can sprinkle in call-to-action promotional images\/posts. These images should be clear, concise, and compelling. Remember to <a href=\"https:\/\/gobeyondseo.com\/design-better-calls-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">add an \ufeffeye-catching call-to-action<\/a> and an image that supports your message.<\/p><p><span class=\"bold_text\">Pinterest:<\/span> Write a blog post that features your products, sales, or offers. Create <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coalmarch.com\/blog\/optimizing-your-images-for-pinterest-and-google-and-why-it-matters\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Pinterest Optimized Images<\/a> and add them to your post. Give your photos names that include search terms your customers would use. Anyone with a Facebook business page can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socialmediaexaminer.com\/facebook-advertising-101-how-to-get-started-with-facebook-ads-with-amy-porterfield\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">run a Facebook ad<\/a>, promote their SIGN UP button, or boost a post.<\/p><p>That being said, with the easy (and free) access people have to social media, it can be difficult to <a href=\"http:\/\/maximizesocialbusiness.com\/how-to-get-more-engagement-using-facebook-ads-23148\/#\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">compete for&nbsp;attention<\/a>. You have to be a little clever to really pull this off...<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.totalcoaching.com\/blog\/easiest-facebook-ads\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Here's a \ufeff\ufeffcomplete step-by-step guide<\/a> to making money with the easiest Facebook ads. This does take a little practice, and you will need to invest a bit of money to find a formula that works. It\u2019s better than wasting resources or, even worse, doing nothing because you can\u2019t afford the complex solution. And remember, you can usually turn good enough into great later.<\/em><\/blockquote><p>For my freebie, I made <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tfniche.com\/exercise-technique-tips-free-ebook\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">a list of all the cues and tips<\/a> I have given clients over the years to help them master some of the exercises I constantly see people doing wrong.<\/p><p>I wrote everything down in a Word document and added some pictures. I also made a little infographic on Canva as a special bonus.
