10 Snapchat Marketing Techniques That Will Grow Your PT Business

Mobile content is more important than ever before, with more and more clients using apps to connect with others, manage their time, stay entertained, and so much more. In fact, 55 percent of millennials said they prefer mobile over desktop, according to a recent poll.

If you already have Instagram and Facebook locked down, it’s time to look ahead—at Snapchat. While the app is still in its infancy, it’s far from small, with nearly 9,000 snaps posted every second and 54 percent of users checking in daily, according to AdWeek.

10 Ways to Use Snapchat to Market Your Fitness Business

After seeing Snapchat’s exponential growth, businesses are finding ways to use it to reach customers, both current and prospective. Here are 10 ways you can do the same to market your personal training business.

1) Broadcast Short Testimonials

Ask clients to go live on Snapchat for a quick testimonial. Have them choose one thing to talk about so you get everything in one video. Be sure to download the snaps you take to be used on your website or other marketing materials later.

2) Repurpose Content

Turn your snap story into a real-life blog post for a day. Choose one, and then talk through it, adding your own personal anecdotes and ideas. It may be easiest to choose blog posts like, “5 Ways to Do a Plank,” which will allow you to naturally break up the snap story. Remember—this doesn’t have to be serious; have fun with topics whenever possible.

3) Show That You Walk the Walk

If you workout with a friend, have them take snap videos of your workouts. Focus on just one exercise and do two videos: the first one being instructional, or talking-focused, and the second can be the exercise itself.

Remember, people often use social media to be entertained. So entertain them!

4) Give a Peek into the Life of a Trainer

Show your followers what it’s like to be a trainer. Snap your whole day as you go from session to session, nosh on lunch, and find time for your own workout somewhere in between.

5) Introduce Trainers

If you own a bricks-and-mortar fitness business, use Snapchat as a way to introduce trainers. Have them talk about what they specialize in, what they love about fitness, etc. Snapchat followers will feel more connected to your brand if they know who’s behind it and can put faces with names.

People like to do business with those who they know, like, and trust. So, introduce your team!

6) Show Snippets of Group Sessions

If you’re running group classes, take a minute to snap members as they workout. Always get permission before posting anything, and try to choose videos and photos of clients that are flattering—you don’t want this to turn off current clients. Be sure to say what class it is and when others can catch it.

Snap videos that look fun and unique. Show that you have something different to offer that prospective clients can't find elsewhere!

7) Showcase New Products and Equipment

Use Snapchat as a way to give your followers exclusive access to new products and equipment that’s coming into the gym. This may be what gets them to come in when they otherwise wouldn’t have—“I really don’t want to go, but I if I do, I could check out that new TRX set-up.”

8) Go BTS at Your Gym

If you own a gym, use Snapchat to give followers exclusive videos and pictures "behind the scenes." Get shots of trainers having lunch or snacking, introduce followers to your gym pet (if you have one), record a few seconds of team meetings, and more.

9) Be Yourself

You don’t live in a gym; you have a life outside of your training business. Use Snapchat to show your followers what you do outside of work, from hiking to relaxing with friends, or going out to dinner. Again, it's all about getting your followers to know, like, and trust you!

10) Promote Other Companies—And Vice Versa

Work with other companies to promote one another, allowing you to reach another audience while returning the favour. Choose something specific to promote to make the most out of the opportunity, like a new program or a type of training you provide.
