Tips for Building a Good First Impression as a Personal Trainer

Personal fitness is 90% psychological which is why it’s so incredibly vital to make a great first impression as a personal trainer. Below are a few ways to gain the trust of your clients from the very beginning.

Tips for building a good first impression as a personal trainer

Look the Part

Your clients will have little faith in your abilities if you do not present a fit appearance yourself. This doesn’t necessarily mean you must look like a bodybuilder, but you should nonetheless be an ideal weight and present a somewhat toned physique. It’s not necessary to wear skimpy outfits; however, you should be dressed as though you are ready to work out by wearing athletic clothing and footwear. Avoid wearing an excess amount of jewelry or cosmetics, as too much “bling” tells people you are not actually interested in exercising.

Come Prepared

You should get an idea as to what an individual’s fitness goals are before meeting that person for the first time. That way, you can be prepared to show your client exercises that are in keeping with those goals. You should also find out if your client has any special dietary needs so that you can offer the right nutritional advice. Spend some time using a fitness club software to perform research, and you’ll come across as knowledgeable and helpful. Not being able to provide solid answers is a surefire way to turn people off, because they are likely to question your abilities.

Treat People with Respect

Many people seek out personal trainers because they are too embarrassed to work out in a gym. Others may not have ever exercised before, and require assistance getting started. You should take care not to be judgmental with people because they are overweight or have a low level of physical fitness. Be supportive and encouraging regardless of the circumstances, and people are more likely to continue using your services. They’ll also be more likely to recommend you to other people who are facing similar situations.

Be Organized

It’s important for any professional to be well organized, and personal trainers are no exception. Keeping up with appointments, contact information, and individual fitness plans can be challenging, which is why you should consider using a personal trainer management software to help you stay organized. Your clients will appreciate the fact that you don’t have to sift through mountains of paperwork, and can easily provide them with the information they need at the touch of a button. You can also save time, and will be better able to answer any questions your clients may have.

Creating a good first impression is something that really isn’t all that difficult when you follow these tips. The key is to be consistent so that you are continuously putting your best foot forward each and every time you meet someone new. By doing so, and by striving to be the best you can be in order to help others do the same, your reputation as a capable personal trainer will only continue to grow.
